Summer Office Hours
The GCA office will be open during the summer Monday-Thursday, from 9:00-3:00 pm. We will be closed the week of July 4th.

Yearbooks
Yearbooks will come in sometime toward the end of June. A parent alert will be sent out when they can be picked up from the office.

IOWA Scores & Report Cards
Report Cards will be posted in Renweb by the end of next week. IOWA scores have not come in yet. As soon as they do, they will be mailed home. Please make sure your mailing address is up-to-date in Renweb. Your financial account must be up-to-date/paid-in-full in order to receive records.

Re-enrollment is $225. Reserve your spot now! A few grade levels are close to a wait list. If you will not be returning, please notify the office.

Uniforms
Uniforms will remain the same for next school year. Take advantage of the upcoming sales to get a jump start on next year's uniforms.
If you have gently used uniforms you would like to donate to GCA, they can be dropped off to the main office during summer hours. Later in the summer the link to order Spirit T-Shirts will be emailed out.

The Athletic Department has been working extremely hard planning our summer camps. To continue the growth of our athletes in their sports, we have staggered camp dates and tried to minimize the cost so all students could have an opportunity to join different camps if desired.

All dates and times for the following sports have been posted on our website (Football, Soccer, Basketball and Volleyball for all Jr. High 6th-8th and High School Students 9th -12th).

Color Run & Field Day is March 14th

Our GCA Field Day and Color Run is on March 14, 2025--the day before Spring Break! This day will be an exciting day full of games, pizza, color and fun!

All students and volunteers that ordered shirts will also have pizza provided for lunch. Kona Ice and the snack shack will be available for purchase on-site. Dismissal will be at the conclusion of the Color Run (approximately 1:15 pm).

We need your help to make this day a huge success. Whether that is through donating items or your time that day, every bit is appreciated.

Do you remember last year? The student who raised the most donations was able to pie Ms. Felix in the face.

Book Blast for Elementary

Monday, March 3rd Kicks off Read Across America Week and our Book Blast program for elementary students. Students will be coming home with their Treasure Maps.

Western Day

Thursday, March 6th Elementary and ELC will have a special WESTERN DAY. Student may dress in their favorite western gear and there will be a special surprise activity that afternoon!

We have officially ended our Winter Sports. It was a great time celebrating our athletes in our winter pep rally. Thank you all for supporting your students through practices and games. We appreciate all the efforts you have made this season.

SAFETY: GCA parents/students should only be entering/exiting by the main GCA office entrance between the hours of 8:00-3:30. If you arrive after. Please do not come in the Early Learning Center entrance unless you are dropping of an ELC student.

All visitors must present their identification at the front office and receive a visitor badge when going to any area of the building beyond the front office.

Illness Policy Reminders
If the following exists, your child should stay home or if illness occurs at school, they will be sent home:

Temperature of 100.0 or above: May return when fever free for 24 hours without any fever reducing medications.
Vomiting within the last 24 hours: May return when vomiting has subsided without any anti-emetic medication for 24 hours and appetite has returned.
Diarrhea within the last 24 hours: May return when diarrhea free without any anti-diarrhea medication for 24 hours.
Any unexplained rashes or skin infections: May return to school with a note from a physician with medical clearance.
Live lice or nits: May return when the student has had treatment, and no active lice or nits are present.
Conjunctivitis (pink eye) or any discharge, red and itchy eyes. May return to school once on medicated eye drops for 24 hours or has a physician note stating when the student may return.
Flu: May return when fever free for 24 hours without medication and feeling well.
Strep throat: May return when fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication, has been on antibiotics for 24 hours and/or has a physician note clearing the student to return to school.
Suspected contagious diseases: May return when a physician has cleared the student to return.
Covid 19: May return to school after symptoms have improved and fever free for 24 hours without any fever reducing medications.

NEW! Elementary Sports Clinic 2025
The Athletic Department is extending an invitation to all elementary students who are interested in sports. Next semester, the Athletic Department has partnered with Soccer Centro Academy and JFG Performance to host 8 weeks of basketball and soccer clinics for 2nd-6th grade. Please fill out this interest form if you would like to know more information and check the box with the sport you are interested in. Clinics start the week of 2/17 and each sport will have its own schedule, fee and time.

Our secondary students will have the opportunity to visit with 6 different College/Universities that will be here to share all about the programs they have to offer. (8:30 am-10:30 am)

All students (preK-12th grade) will be exploring different career opportunities by visiting approximately 20 different career professionals who will be here on-campus. (1:00-3:00 pm)

Both Basketball and Soccer season have started! Our athletes have been using their God-Given talents during practices and are ready to let it all out on the court and field. The Athletic Department is very grateful for all the Cheer and Volleyball teams for starting our Chocolate fundraiser. It was a huge success as we sold almost 100 boxes of candy. Presleigh Daugherty, cheerleader, sold a total of 7 boxes and took home the Chick-fil-a gift card as a reward for being the one with the most boxes sold. We will be doing this fundraiser again for basketball and soccer the second week of January.

Health Screenings

Kinder, 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th grade Vision and Hearing Screenings will be on November 5th

Fifth and seventh will have the Scoliosis Screening and the Acanthosis Nigricans screening. The AN screening consists of checking the skin on the back of the neck for discoloration that can be a sign of high insulin levels.

If a child has had any of these screenings by the pediatrician this current year, and the parent does not want them screened again, provide the nurse with a copy of the test results before November 5th and they will not screened.

If there are any concerns on the first screening, the child will be retested a few weeks later. A referral to the parents to have their child be seen by the doctor will be sent home if any concerns show up on the second screening.

SAFETY:
Thank you for being patient during drop-off and dismissal times. The lines will continue to speed up.

Elementary parents remember to have your car tag visible during pick-up. This helps us get the line moving quickly and also helps to ensure students are getting in the correct vehicles. If you need an additional car tag, please let your student’s teacher know.

Students are not allowed to cross through dismissal traffic so please do not attempt to walk-up to retrieve your student. In rare situations, if you are unable to wait in the car rider line, please make sure to pick-up your student in the front office before 3:15 pm.

Please be aware and considerate of others during drop-off and pick-up. Please refrain from being on your cell phones, drive carefully, and wait your turn in line.

Secondary students should be pick-up by the main office. Please do not get in the elementary line unless also picking up an elementary student. Secondary students need to join their elementary sibling as soon as dismissal happens in order to not hold up traffic.

STUDENT DRIVERS

If your high school student is going to be driving to and from campus, they need to get a Parking Agreement Form from the front office to receive their parking permit.

SCHOOL HOURS

When students are late, it is harder to start the day off smoothly and interferes with procedures. Tardy consequences will be enforced this school year.

Instructional time is important. Please only arrive late or check-out early when absolutely necessary for medical attention or family emergencies. Those students without proper documentation for missed class time will be marked as unexcused. Students who have an abundance of absences will be at risk of not earning credit for class. We apologize for all the technical difficulties regarding ordering lunches in Renweb this past week. It appears all the glitches have been resolved. The menu for September should go live this weekend. Remember to order lunches at least 7-10 days ahead of time.

Starting this Friday, August 23, International Club will begin its weekly meetings in Ms. Rahbe's room (205) during secondary lunch. All middle and high school international students are welcome to join. We will build fellowship with other international students, learn about American culture, practice our English, learn about the life of Abraham, and enjoy monthly restaurant outings. If you have any questions, see Ms. Rahbe or Mr. Wynveen.

On Monday, August 26, Bible Club will begin its weekly meetings in Ms. Rahbe's room (205) during secondary lunch. All middle school and high school students are welcome. New extra layer of security support on campus. All stairway doors are now utilizing an electric monitoring system only operated with electronic access granted to staff.

DEADLINE is Monday, April 29th (Open to all students)

To be considered for the scholarship the following criteria and deadline must be followed:

Have your account in good standing at GCA
Write a respectable letter, and/or record a video
Include their full name and what grade they are entering into for the 2024-25 school year.
Share their experience at GCA and the benefits of a Christian education. It can be fun, creative, and reflective of your student’s individual experience.
Include a drawing or something special or unique that reflects them personally.
It should include a sincere thank you to those who have given to the legacy scholarship and funded the many items purchased with their philanthropy.
Include their favorite things, subjects, teachers, or people, at GCA.
It is important to include what it would mean to receive this scholarship.
The video should be no longer than 2.5 minutes and avoid background noise, unless you have music to support you as background. It should be edited, clear, and legible.
The essay should be typed and at least 5 sentences covering the required criteria above. If your student is under the age of 10, their essay can be handwritten. Your student can include of photo if desired.

The GCA 30th Anniversary Field Day and Color Run was amazing!

Thank you to all our volunteers for helping this day run smoothly. Everyone had a blast. Thank you to all those who donated water, popsicles, oranges, coolers, and financial donations as well. We are blessed to have such a supportive group of families.

Congratulations to the Junior Kindergarten class for being our top donation winners. They will receive a pizza party.

Congratulations to 4th grader, Terrance, on being our top donation winner. He earned the opportunity of pieing Ms Felix at the color run! Thanks for going easy on me!

Enrollment & Re Enrollment open for the 2024-2025 School year…don’t forget to reserve your spot!

Online enrollment is through Renweb. Please complete the online enrollment form by March 21, 2024 and you are all set. For the 2024-2025 school year, GCA will charge an automatic non-refundable registration fee ($125) to your FACTS account on March 22nd for all currently enrolled students.

After your enrollment packet is submitted, you will receive a confirmation email. At any time, you can re-access Online Enrollment through your ParentsWeb login to print a PDF copy of the completed enrollment packet. If you have any questions about the process, please feel free to contact us at 281-488-4883.

If you anticipate a school change for next year, please fill out the student withdrawal form by March 21st to avoid incurring the enrollment fee charge.

Get to school on-time. School starts at 8:05 am. When you are tardy, you are missing valuable instructional time and disrupting the daily routine of the classroom.
Lunch: Bring your lunch to school or order the school lunch. Deliveries should be for unexpected and occasional issues–not on a regular basis. Absolutely no delivery companies will be accepted.
Dress code: Please follow the school appropriate Uniform dress code, including outerwear and shoes guidelines. Visit our school website for more information.

GCA 30th Anniversary Field Day & Color Run

Field Day/Color Run Sign-Up due today!

This year our GCA 30th Anniversary Field Day is on March 8, 2024--the day before Spring Break! This day will be an exciting day full of games, prizes, and fun! Our theme this year is Survivor and will take place from 8:05 am-1:15 pm. This is an EARLY DISMISSAL day of 1:15 pm for all students.

This year's event will also include a COLOR RUN! When your student signs up they will also get to participate in the Color Run. The Color Run is also a fundraising opportunity for our school. You should have received an email from 99pledges to sign your student up. Please share with family and friends to help us raise money for GCA. Donations can be pledged either by lap or a flat donation. Let's see which grade level earns the most for GCA!

The student price for Field Day & Color Run is $25. The cost includes participation in field day/color run, t-shirt, sunglasses, team gaiter, color packets, and a pizza lunch. We will also have Kona Ice and concessions available for extra purchase. Please sign-up by February 23rd so we can order the correct number of t-shirts and color powder.

Online Enrollment through Renweb For the 2024-2025 school year, we will implement automatic enrollment, which allows for a seamless, paperless enrollment process for the upcoming school year. GCA will charge a non-refundable registration fee ($125) to your FACTS account on March 1st. All you need to do is complete the online enrollment form by February 28, 2024, and you are all set.

If you anticipate a school change for next year, please fill out the student withdrawal form in Renweb by February 28 to avoid incurring the enrollment fee charge.

After your enrollment packet is submitted, you will receive a confirmation email. At any time, you can re-access Online Enrollment through your ParentsWeb login to print a PDF copy of the completed enrollment packet. If you have any questions about the process, please feel free to contact us at 281-488-4883.

ACE Scholarship

The window for applying for an ACE Scholarship has opened! ACE’s mission is to provide children in grades K-12 with equal access to quality schools through privately funded scholarships. ACE has an unwavering commitment to ensure that all kids have access to an education that suits the needs of the child and family, by enabling the student to attend their private school of choice.

Apply through your Renweb account under Financial Links, Apply for Grant or Aid. The window closes April 15th. For more information regarding the application or income qualifications, please visit https://www.acescholarships.org/become-a-scholar/texas/

Did you know that we have a History Club?

History Club is a chapter of the National History Club. GCA is the only private Christian school in the State of Texas to be a member of the National History Club. Our history club meets every Tuesday during secondary lunch.

History Club has been able to bring in a number of guest speakers from throughout the Houston area including Bob Boetticher from the National Museum of Funeral History (the funeral director of Presidents Reagan, Ford, and George H. W. Bush), Rae Bryant from the Houston Genealogical Society, Doug Rask of NASA, speakers from the Houston Holocaust Museum, and Bob Whenert, a World War II veteran.

History Club also participates in hands-on activities, simulations, and the viewing of historical films. All are welcome!

Do you have outgrown, gently used GCA uniforms or spirit wear that you don’t know what to do with?

Consider donating those items to GCA. We will be collecting the gently used pants, shorts, skirts, shirts, jackets, and sweaters. All collected items will then be available during a Resale Day at discount prices to parents before school starts next year. All funds collected from the resale will go to the Parent Teacher Committee for use with student activities.

Stay Healthy

Illness Policy Reminders

If the following exists, your child should stay home or if illness occurs at school, they will be sent home.
Temperature of 100.0 or above: May return when fever free for 24 hours without any fever reducing medications.
Vomiting within the last 24 hours: May return when vomiting has subsided without any anti-emetic medication for 24 hours and appetite has returned.
Diarrhea within the last 24 hours: May return when diarrhea free without any anti-diarrhea medication for 24 hours.
Any unexplained rashes or skin infections.: May return to school with a note from a physician with medical clearance.
Live lice or nits: May return when the student has had treatment, and no active lice or nits are present.
Conjunctivitis (pink eye) or any discharge, red and itchy eyes. May return to school once on medicated eye drops for 24 hours or has a physician note stating when the student may return.
Flu: May return when fever free for 24 hours without medication and feeling well.
Strep throat: May return when fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication, has been on antibiotics for 24 hours and/or has a physician note clearing the student to return to school.
Suspected Contagious diseases: May return when a physician has cleared the student to return.
Covid 19: May return to school 5 days after first onset of symptoms or positive test, symptoms have improved and fever free for 24 hours without any fever reducing medications.

GCA students enjoy chapel every Thursday and, as always, parents are invited to attend Chapel services. Elementary Chapel is at 9:15 am and Secondary Chapel is at 11:15 am. February 1st chapel will have a special Rodeo guest speaker.

Monday is National Puzzle Day

what kind of puzzles do you enjoy? Logic, crossword, word search, decoding, word scrambles, brain teasers, jigsaw puzzles? Students are invited to bring an example of their favorite type of puzzle to share with their class.

- February 8th is GCA Freedom-Spiritual Emphasis Day for 7th-12th graders. Parents, please make sure you have turned in your letters to venessa.ogaga@gcahtx.com

-Valentine’s Day

Elementary students will be having class parties. Lookout for emails from your thes Room-Parent. Students may also purchase candy grams for their friends. Flyers are going home this week.

Secondary students will have several opportunities to participate in Valentine’s activities sponsored by the Student Council. More information is coming soon!

-Lost and Found Items

The GCA Lost and Found is located in the gym and is quite full. If your student is missing clothing items, water bottles, books, and or other miscellaneous items, please have them check that area. Electronics and jewelry items are usually turned into the front office. All items that have not been claimed will be donated.

Because of your support, we are able to add some fun activities to our calendar. Students enjoyed National Popcorn Day during lunch last week–Thank you!

The last PTC meeting was this past Tuesday. We discussed several possible upcoming events like Field Day, Career Day, Harry & Cindy Bryant LEgacy Fun Day and a Spring Book Fair. Be on the lookout for volunteer opportunities. We will need your ideas and support to make it all a huge success.

Health Screenings

Kinder, 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th grade Vision and Hearing Screenings will be on November 5th

Fifth and seventh will have the Scoliosis Screening and the Acanthosis Nigricans screening. The AN screening consists of checking the skin on the back of the neck for discoloration that can be a sign of high insulin levels.

If a child has had any of these screenings by the pediatrician this current year, and the parent does not want them screened again, provide the nurse with a copy of the test results before November 5th and they will not screened.

If there are any concerns on the first screening, the child will be retested a few weeks later. A referral to the parents to have their child be seen by the doctor will be sent home if any concerns show up on the second screening.

Remember Germs Spread Fast! Wash those hands, use hand sanitizer, cover your cough, and stay home if sick.

Basketball
The Boys Varsity Team starts practices until 5pm every day. A parent meeting is coming soon to talk over the season this year. We are currently looking for a team manager to join the team. Any student interested please talk to Coach Fernandez.

Students who received a box of chocolate, all funds are due 10/31 to Coach Fernandez. If you need another box, you have 2 more weeks to sell as many boxes as possible. Student with the most sells receives a $40 Chick Fil A Gift card.
